Fuel price hike fallout: “Skipping meals to keep my auto running”

M Murugan, who has been running a small mess and a tea stall in Jafferkhanpet, a locality in Chennai, for more than 25 years is thinking of shutting down his business. “Even during the pandemic we were hopeful that things would improve, but the unprecedented hike in fuel prices has increased the price of vegetables and groceries. I am spending much more on preparing meals. It is difficult to make any profit,” he says.
