No offline classes, exams in colleges, varsities from April 19

BHUBANESWAR: The state government on Thursday decided that physical, theory and practical classes and examinations in all higher educational institutions will remain closed with effect from April 19. These institutions can take online classes in order to complete the syllabus in time.

The government has advised students to avoid staying in the hostel in the interest of their personal health.

Like higher educational institutions, all technical or professional institutions under the jurisdiction of skill development and technical education department will also be closed with effect from April 19. All hostels/residential accommodations of technical educational institutions will remain closed from April 19 till further order.

“However, scholars, researchers and students who desire to stay in hostel for research/project works or other academic activities may be permitted for the same upon giving undertaking and subject to approval by appropriate authorities of the concerned institutions,” said the order of the state government.

The department will take appropriate decision regarding timing and mode of examination. However, all on-going offline diploma examinations, which will be concluded on April 26, will be allowed to continue according to the programme by following Covid appropriate behaviour.

Coaching institutions, organisations or individuals offering coaching services to students cannot run physical coaching from Saturday. But virtual or online coaching will be permitted to continue.

Teaching and non- teaching employees of schools, higher and technical educational institutions will work according to the prevailing guidelines for government servants and perform duty as assigned to them by the authorities.
