Punjab government cancels exam for classes 5, 8, & 10

NEW DELHI: Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday announced that all students of classes 5, 8, and 10 will be promoted to the next class without appearing for any examination, due to the surge in covid 19 cases in the state.

He further said that the decision on Class 12 PSEB exams, which have already been postponed, to be taken later based on the emerging situation.

“Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh announces that all students of class 5, 8 & 10 be promoted to the next class, without taking any examination. A decision on Class 12 PSEB exams, which have already been postponed, to be taken later based on the emerging situation, Punjab CMO,” ANI reports.

Due to the surge in Covid-19 cases, Amarinder Singh has sought postponement of the Class 10 and 12 board exams, in order to allay the uncertainty among students and their parents.

The Chief Minister has written to Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, pointing to the prevailing situation and stressing that, “it would only be appropriate that a decision is taken forthwith to postpone the Class X and XII board examinations.”
