Tamil Nadu declares all pass to students studying in classes I to VIII

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Directorate of Elementary Education has asked chief educational officers in districts to instruct headmasters to give all pass to students studying in classes I to VIII.

The state government had already given all pass to students studying in classes IX to XI, citing Covid-19.

In a circular issued to all chief educational officers on Monday, director of elementary education M Palanisamy said the headmasters should enter all pass in the registers based on the provisions of Right to Education (RTE) Act.

“As per Section 16 of RTE Act, no child admitted in a school shall be held back in any class or expelled from school till the completion of elementary education. Based on the Act, all students studying in all types of schools should be declared pass. The chief educational officers should give the necessary directions through email and phone to the headmasters,” the circular said.

It said the date for reopening of schools would be announced after the end of the complete lockdown. The announcement on distributing books and welfare schemes would also be announced later.

The Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation has already printed 3.8 crore new textbooks for the next academic year.
