telangana school news: Telangana promotes all class 1-9 students to next level without exams

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government on Monday issued an order promoting all class 1-9 students to the next class without holding any final examinations.

The decision comes days after the state government had ordered the closure of schools for summer vacations from April 27 to May 31, 2021. Early closure of schools for summer vacations had left the management of state-board schools in a dilemma over examinations and method of promotion for class 1-9 students.

Orders issued by the school education department states – “Government after careful examination of the matter and keeping in view of hardship caused due to Covid-19 pandemic, hereby accord permission to director of school education (FAC), Telangana, Hyderabad to promote all the students of classes 1-9 studying in government, aided and private unaided schools during the academic year 2020-21 to next higher classes in the academic year 2021-22.”

Now that a rigorous assessment is not possible due to the pandemic, schools are looking at other ways to help those who need to catch up. Many schools feel an urgent need to bridge the learning gaps among class 9 students by holding home-based assessments during the summer holidays.

“We have prepared worksheets, projects of 45 days on key concepts, and revisit fundamental topics in an engaging and fun-filled manner. We will be assessing the learning gaps of all the students, especially those in class 9,” said Jyotsna, principal of Cardinal Gracious High School.
